Linda Lay started singing and playing with her family band at an early age. Her father taught her to play the guitar when she was around six. She later switched to the bass and that has been her favorite instrument. Linda, like Sammy, has mastered her instrument and has impeccable timing, which is a must for a bassist. She has such an ear for timing that she cannot help stomping her right foot when the timing is beginning to shift. Linda, like Sammy will make you play your best. Bristol, Virginia was home to Appalachian Trail with Linda as their featured vocalist for over 20 years .They won the SPBGMA band contest in 1994. Appalachian Trail has the record for winning the most money ever at SPBGMA. While they made lots of appearances at festivals along the east coast in the 20 years, she never wanted to tour professionally, choosing to raise her children and work the 9-5 job. Linda was chosen to share the spotlight on the original recordings for the Cracker Barrel Heritage music series. She recorded a solo project for Cracker Barrel that featured old classic country songs and was a member of the Stony Point Quartet. After doing the Stony Point Quartet CD with David McLaughlin, Linda and her husband decided to leave Appalachian Trail band to join with McLaughlin to form the Springfield Exit group.
